This Is My Life Too

Sit in It, Move Through It, and Still Choose How You Live

Life does not always cooperate with the version we had planned.

We get hurt. We get reactive. We get overwhelmed. We have opinions we probably do not need, get disappointed by people we love, and sometimes discover that knowing better has done absolutely nothing to prevent us from doing the very human thing anyway.

This book is about becoming more capable inside all of that.

Not by controlling every thought, feeling, circumstance, or person around us, but by learning how to experience what is honestly here, move through it, and still choose how we participate in the life we are living.

Life is not meant to be coped through.

It is meant to be experienced.

WHY THIS BOOK EXISTS

I didn’t write this because I figured life out.

I wrote it because I became increasingly interested in what makes us more capable of living the life that is actually ours, especially when life has absolutely no interest in cooperating with the version we had planned.

I’m still reactive sometimes. I still get bothered. I still hurt, overthink, get overwhelmed, have opinions I probably don’t need, and occasionally find myself having a much more emotionally significant experience in a grocery store than the situation reasonably requires.

What changed for me was not becoming unbothered. It was becoming more interested in what happens next.

How do we sit inside what’s here without immediately escaping it, fixing it, controlling it, or handing it authority over everything that comes after?

How do we move through whatever life drops in our lap while remaining capable of choosing how we want to participate?

That question has followed me through my own life, through years of professional work, and through countless conversations with people trying to make sense of what it means to be human without turning every uncomfortable moment into evidence that something has gone wrong.

This Is My Life Too is about becoming the person you want to be while experiencing living the way you would prefer.

Not the life where nothing hurts, nobody disappoints you, your body always cooperates, and you finally become so emotionally evolved that nothing gets under your skin.

That life sounds exhausting anyway.

This one is about the life you actually have.

THE IDEA AT THE CENTER

We cannot control everything that arrives.

But we can become more capable of choosing what we do with it.

We don’t get to choose every thought, feeling, circumstance, reaction, or other person’s decision that enters our lives.

And I don’t think the work is pretending we do.

The work begins with being willing to experience what is actually here. To notice it. Name it. Sort through what belongs to us and what doesn’t. Then decide how we want to participate in what happens next.

That doesn’t mean we won’t hurt, react, get angry, need time, or occasionally wish reality would be a little more interested in our preferences. It means the first thing we feel doesn’t automatically have to become the thing that decides what we build from there.

EXPERIENCE WHAT IS HERE

MOVE THROUGH WHAT IS DIFFICULT

STILL CHOOSE HOW YOU LIVE

Let what is true be true long enough to understand it.

We don’t have to escape discomfort in order to keep moving.

What arrives matters. What we do with it matters too.

WHAT YOU’LL FIND INSIDE

Real Ideas for a Real Life.

This book explores the moments and patterns that shape how we experience life and what helps us participate in it differently.

Not as a set of rules to follow, but as a way of seeing ourselves more clearly and becoming more capable inside the life we already have.

A BOOK BUILT FROM REAL LIFE

Stories, Insight, and a Little Humor.

This book was not built from theory alone.

A lot of it came from my own life. From relationships, grief, fear, overfunctioning, family, friendship, work, discomfort, ordinary mistakes, and the moments that forced me to look more honestly at how I was participating in what was happening.

A lot of it also came from years of professional work and thousands of conversations with people trying to make sense of their own patterns, choices, relationships, coping, and growth.

That means the book is not polished into some version of life where everyone responds beautifully, learns the lesson immediately, and moves on with perfect emotional maturity.

Sometimes we get it right.

Sometimes we realize later what was actually happening.

Sometimes the most useful insight shows up after we have already said the thing, made the assumption, overreacted, withdrawn, overexplained, or created a small presentation about why our position is obviously the correct one.

The stories are there because I think ideas become more useful when we can recognize ourselves inside them.

This is not a book about becoming flawless.

It is a book about becoming more available for your own life.
